For the past few weeks students in Grade 1 have been starting lessons differently and taking brain breaks in order to relax and concentrate before sitting at their desks.
Learning different breathing exercises with large body movements representing various objects involved with air. E.g. "The Ball" and "Butterfly".
With slow-flowing movements to soothing music the children find their own focus.
Negotiating the classroom space and greeting each other with a smile.
The room fills with positive thoughts and energy, now we're ready to learn.
After the first session students gave verbal and physical feedback about their involvement.
It was an instant hit!
Everyone enjoyed their first experience of "Tai Chi" style movements, thinking and breathing.
excellent idea - I could see that as a recurring "breather" before classes or tasks - Raoul
