Grade 2 "Garden" and Plants

Dear weblog (blog) followers,
This the first time that the Grade 2 students have started writing blog comments themselves. We hope that this will help give the children more ownership over what goes on their blog!

"Sonnenblume, Sonnenblume,
steht an unserm Gartenzaun.
Aussen hat sie gelbe Blätter,
innen ist sie braun.

Kommt ein Vöglein angeflogen,
Hunger hat’s gar sehr:
“Bitte liebe Sonnenblume,
gib mir ein paar Körnchen her.”

Und das Vöglein pickt,
und pickt,
Körnlein ohne Zahl.

“Danke liebe Sonnenblume,

Surreal Imagination

We have been talking and thinking about how artists draw and paint their art. We compared work by a few artists and discussed what realistic and abstract art is.
Some children already created their own "cityscape" using an online
program from the Tate gallery in London.
Students have also been learning how to sketch using a viewfinder, and transfer and enlarge images.
Good practise for our class project below.

Our scaled up painting is an ambitious project, but has turned the group room into a working studio
and the children into real artists!

Students enlarge their square of the picture by transferring pencil lines onto the canvas.

Using the overhead projector and grid system the children begin the arduous task of transferring each part of their image taking care to match up lines with the squares around their own.

Watch this space to see our completed full size surrealist style painting!

Umweltunterricht
